The Grand Rapids Area Basketball Association (GRABA) is thrilled to announce that tryouts for boys and girls in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be held October 27 and 28 at Robert J. Elkington Middle School. Perfect for young athletes eager to take their game to the next level, this is your chance to join GRABA’s competitive travel basketball program.
Why You Should Tryout
Travel ball is more competitive than the House League, offering kids the opportunity to represent Grand Rapids in regional tournaments—locations may include Brainerd, Bemidji, Pequot Lakes, and more .
Program Highlights
Who’s eligible: Boys and girls in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.
Team structure: Teams consist of 8 to 10 players. GRABA will form multiple teams per grade if 16–20 players try out .
Tryouts are free and obligation-free—sign up to receive all important updates, even if you’re unsure about playing.
Important Dates
Tryout registration closes October 13—this deadline is firm, with no late registrations accepted .
After tryouts, selected players will receive an "Offer" email with payment details. Fees won’t be due until early December.
Season Outlook
Timeframe: The travel basketball season typically runs December through March.
Practices: Usually held 2–3 times per week at local elementary schools (East, West, Cohasset), lasting 60–90 minutes per session.
Games: Expect 4–6 tournaments and 12–20 games, primarily on weekends.
Uniforms: Players must have matching jerseys, shorts, and shooting shirts—available for purchase after tryouts; returning families may reuse gear if it's in good condition.
