4-6 Travel Basketball
26-27 Season
Welcome to GRABA Travel Basketball! Travel ball is a more competitive brand of basketball than our GRABA House League. Your player will represent Grand Rapids in area tournaments from Brainerd, Bemidji, Pequot Lakes, and more!
Registration is open for our FREE tryouts. There is NO OBLIGATION to play if you sign up for tryouts. We recommend, that if you're interested, to sign up which allows us to communicate dates and times of tryouts and informal gym times.
Teams must have at least 8 players and a maximum of 10.
If you have any questions please reach out to our travel coordinator.
Tryouts & Evaluation Process
Tryouts use a combination of drills & live gameplay to evaluate each player objectively on athleticism, skills, decision-making, and character.
Tryouts are run by the GRABA Board with the exception of where a board member has a player competing for a roster spot. In those cases the board member(s) will not participate in the evaluation process.
Ages
What aged players are appropriate for this program?
This season is for boys & girls in 4th-6th grade. GRABA has a separate registration for 7th & 8th graders.
When
What time of the year does this program run?
Travel seasons typically run November - April. The start and finish dates depend on tournaments & State Qualifications.
Where
Where are practices and games typically held?
Practices are held primarily at the 3 main elementary schools: East, West, & Cohasset. Games are held at regional tournament host sites.
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
Practice schedules are coach dependent. Typically teams practice 2-3 times per week, and 1-2 hours per session.

The number of tournaments varies by grade and class.
Teams within the $297 registration cost tier typically play 4-5 tournaments. Teams within the $396 tier play 6-7 tournaments.

If you are re-using prior years uniforms, please make sure it's clean, in good shape, and include the number in your registration. If your are new to travel, please request 3 numbers that you are ok using in order of preference.
Please note that the newest shooting shirts feature the new logo not the Thunderhawk from previous years.

A travel jersey, shorts, & warmup are required and an are additional cost. GRABA sells these items at cost during registration.
Transportation, meals, & lodging for out of town tournaments.
Playing Time
Is playing time equal as it is in House League?
No, Travel does not require equal playing time. Merit based time is part of the travel experience. However, we STRONGLY encourage coaches to play everyone throughout a tournament at least 40% and to communicate with families if there is a reason for reduced playing time.
Travel ball requires commitment from both parents and players to get the most out of the season. Thank you for committing to Grand Rapids Basketball!
